Church Music

First Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs is blessed with one of the finest and most talented choirs in the Arkansas Presbytery. The choir enjoys the accompaniment of a superb Nichols & Simpson pipe organ which was designed specifically for our church. The organ employs 40 stops, 53 ranks and 2,989 pipes, and the spiritual experience of the music, in perfect concert with the physical beauty and acoustics in the sanctuary, is simply unparalleled.

The choir is directed by Ms. Deleen Davidson, a professional opera star with ongoing performances throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. As a highly successful visual & performing artist, she has balanced art and music since early childhood. Though a native of New Orleans, she spent several years abroad, studying painting and voice, and teaching in Germany and Austria through Rotary and Fullbright scholarships. Her main stage roles include numerous performances in the New Orleans Opera, the Gulf Coast Opera and in Martina Arroyo’s Prelude to Performance series in New York where she debuted in 2005. Ms. Davidson relocated to Hot Springs soon after Hurricane Katrina rearranged her life in 2005.

The church organist is Dr. Hee-Kyung Juhn. She attended The Juilliard School (MM) in New York City and has appeared on concert stages in South America, Europe, Asia and throughout the USA. The New York Concert Review called Dr. Juhn "a top notch, superb pianist” after her Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall) debut with flutist Elena Yarritu. A versatile and talented artist, Dr. Juhn has worked as an opera coach, staff accompanist (Juilliard School, DePauw University), and music director and organist (IU). As an academic, she taught full-time at the Music Department of the University of California in Santa Barbara. She currently serves as Director of Keyboard Studies at Henderson State University.
